Moisture content is the amount of water that is present in a cannabis product. More specifically, it is the percentage of water compared to the overall weight of the product.<\/div>\n

The amount of moisture in cannabis products is important both for a quality product and to prevent microbial contaminants from taking hold. Products that are too low in moisture are dry and brittle, making the product difficult to consume and often less effective. On the other side, if moisture content climbs too high, mold, mildew, and fungus can grow freely, which can cause other problems. The ideal percent moisture for cannabis products varies from person to person and strain to strain, but generally is between 6% – 12% moisture.<\/span><\/p>\n

Moisture content is measured using a moisture meter. This instrument works by weighing a set amount of product, then boiling off any water present, and weighing it afterwards. The difference in the weight before and after this process is the percent moisture of the product.<\/span><\/p>\n
