What we test
Nevada requires testing for Salmonella, E. coli, and four Aspergillus species, as well as total counts for Yeast & Mold, Enterobacteriaceae, Coliforms, and Aerobic bacteria.
Why we test
Microbial screening for cannabis products is vital to public safety. Microbes are abundant in our lives, but specific organisms can be hazardous to human health.
How we test
Samples are enriched and/or incubated for one to three days, depending on the test, to allow the organisms to grow. Afterwards, specific organisms can be tested for by qPCR (quantitative polymerase chain reaction), which amplifies the target organism’s DNA and allows even a single cell to be found and identified, or total counts are obtained by plating on nutrient media, where an analyst will count out the colony forming units (CFU).
